A Sneak Peek into Tofino’s Ancient Past
This magical place was believed to be inhabited by the First Nations People, the Nuu-chah-nulth who made Clayoquat Sound their home for thousand of years. The spot was named Tofino after a Spanish Admiral named Don Vincente Tofino whom Captain Galiono and Valdez learned cartography from during an expedition back in 1792. Later In 1913, the Church of England instructed for a church to be built on the most beautiful spot on Vancouver Island. Tofino was chosen. Tofino became a trading town until the 1950’s when logging became a primary industry when a road was punched through mountains between Port Alberni and the Coast
How to Reach Tofino
You can choose to fly to Tofino via small
passenger planes but try to avoid the early morning
fog. Access to
Tofino Airport is only possible when the fog clears
up. There is another simple way to get to Tofino hassle-free. Get on a bus from Victoria, Vancouver, Nanaimo or Port Alberni and you will reach Tofino in no time without too much effort on your part!
